Recycled

I had to write a paper today, so I didn't do any real cooking.  So, I am putting in a recycled post from my other blog.  (Recycled, so no, my grandmother isn't in the hospital right now.  She's in a nursing home.)

My grandmother makes the best jambalaya in the whole wide world. Except, it's not like anything I would ever call jambalaya. So, no mentioning that this is not authentic jambalaya, and enjoy the recipe. I made this today, because I'm thinking of her, she's in the hospital right now.

1 Cup rice - wash in sieve
1/2 lb link sausage( I used kielbasa) - sliced 1/2 inch thick
1/2 lb ham - cubed 1/2 inch
1/2 lb round steak - cubed 1/2 inch
1 smallish onion, diced (3/4 - 1 cup)
1 clove garlic, chopped

Brown meat, remove, wilt onion, then garlic on top of onion
Mix onion, garlic, meat - add
5 cups stock or water
2-4 tablespoons dry parsley flakes, mixed with
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/16 tsp cayenne
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 bay leaf

When fluid boils - scatter in spice mix then add rice slowly, stir -
when all comes to bubble - keep at simmer with cover ajar for
about 40 minutes or until rice is tender.
